Taylor Washington wore this “Man in Black” secondary match worn shirt on September 20th, 2023 against Sporting Kansas City in a 3-0 victory.
Washington is the last original member of the USL iteration of Nashville SC that existed from 2018-2020.
The defender made the leap to MLS with the club and has made 64 appearances to date with 2023 already surpassing his career high in appearances, though not his career high in minutes.
Taylor was named the club’s 2021 Humanitarian of the Year and is also set to be featured in the Celebrating Impact content series by The Players’ Tribune that will highlight his demonstration of excellence in driving progress in his community.
This kit was worn by Washington in his substitute appearance on September 20th, 2023 against SKC.
Washington subbed on at the 81st minute for Daniel Lovitz and played the final nine minutes of regulation and five minutes of stoppage time to seal the clean sheet for Joe Willis. He immediately earned a yellow card in the 82nd minute after taking the pitch for a hard foul on Jake Davis.
This kit is unwashed and smells accordingly. It does feature some game wear with some faint marks below the sponsorship on the front of the shirt, but is otherwise in great condition beyond the smell.
One thing to note with this kit is that it still has the Kick Childhood Cancer patch intact. Several Nashville SC players had their’s fall off throughout the match including Hany Mukhtar and Walker Zimmerman.
These “Man in Black” kits were created in collaboration with the estate of Johnny Cash and inspired by The Backline Supporters Collective.
The new jerseys are solid black with dark graphite and iron metallic accents and feature the iconic Folsom Prison image of Johnny Cash on the lower left hem and his signature on the back of the neck. They were an instant success and one of the best selling shirts of the season in Major League Soccer.
I am pretty thrilled to add one of these to my Nashville SC collection, particularly from a player who through his off the field work really embodies several of the virtues Johnny Cash discussed in the track “Man in Black”.
