Randall Leal is having a heck of a start to his second season in Major League Soccer.

The Costa Rican winger has been a welcome spark in Nashville’s engine, and it’s showing on the scoresheet. In just 13 games, he’s already equaled his 2020 output of goals + assists with 2 goals and 5 assists so far. He had 3 goals and 4 assists in 21 games last season.

Nashville SC has lost some of it’s defensive stinginess, but it’s finally reaching it’s potential offensively thanks to the likes of Leal and Hany Mukhtar showing up big in year two.

This shirt was worn on June 18th, 2021 against New York Red Bulls in a 2-0 loss. Randall Leal played the first half and was substituted for Luke Haakenson in the 63rd minute of the second half.

Leal’s shirt has minimal signs of wear, but there are a few interesting tidbits.

The 2020 primary kits (such as this one worn by Aníbal Godoy) have the MLS patch on the right sleeve and the Hyundai sponsorship on the left sleeve. The 2021 primary kits are the opposite, with the MLS patch on the left sleeve and Hyundai on the right.

Another odd feature is that the jerseys still have the 2020 Inaugural Season embossment on the lower left front of the shirts. I’m sure they are just using up shirts that were left over from the previous year due to the shortened season, but it is interesting nevertheless.

This shirt also has the Juneteenth celebration number set that was worn throughout the league on the weekend of June 19th. All of the shirts worn were auctioned by Fanatics with each team selecting a charity of their choice for the proceeds to be donated to.

Randall Leal signed this shirt on the back next to the number.

If Leal keeps up this pace, Nashville SC will be well rewarded for making Randall Leal a designated player signing ahead of their inaugural season.

At just 24 years old, he’s still improving and could continue to be a vital piece of the Nashville attack for the foreseeable future.
