Aníbal Godoy was a vital part of a very stingy defense for Nashville SC that helped them far exceed expectations in their inaugural season.
Godoy is never going to be a player who sells a lot of shirts in the club’s team store.
He toils in the midfield doing the thankless work, foiling opposition attacks and ensuring the team regains possession to press forward. It’s not glamorous, but his play (alongside Dax McCarty) went a long way towards making Nashville SC a viable team through their defense in 2020.
When he was on the pitch, there was no doubt Nashville SC were better.
Godoy’s shirt is pretty clean. Most match worn shirts sold by Fanatics tend to be so as they are washed before being sold.
Much like with Hany Mukhtar’s secondary match worn shirt, Godoy’s shirt features the Hyundai sponsorship logo on the left sleeve which isn’t found on the retail shirts sold by Nashville SC. It also features the team’s inaugural season “patch” sublimated near the left hem.
Godoy signed the shirt above the numbers and next to his name.
Nashville SC had something of a Cinderella first season in Major League Soccer.
Expectations were low yet they came together as a team down the stretch and not only made the playoffs, but snuck into the second round and lost to eventual MLS Cup Champions Columbus Crew.
Aníbal Godoy missed part of that stretch run with injury.
If he’s able to stay on the field in 2021, he’ll be an invaluable piece as the club attempts to take another step forward in 2021.
